The winches on your yacht are under immense structural load, tasked with managing thousands of pounds of sheet and halyard tension. Over time, salt, old grease, and grit mix inside the drum, turning into an abrasive paste that degrades internal bearings, pawls, and springs. A neglected winch doesn’t just become stiff and difficult to grind—it can slip catastrophically under load, risking severe injury to your crew or damage to your deck layout.

Cleaning, Refurbishment & Repair
We don’t just spray your winches with lubricant. Our deep-clean servicing and refurbishment process involves completely stripping down each unit to ensure every internal component is restored to optimal mechanical and cosmetic condition.
We carefully disassemble your winches on deck, using specialised containment padding to ensure no springs, circlips, or bearings accidentally go overboard.
Every individual gear, spindle, roller bearing, and housing is thoroughly degreased and cleaned to remove hardened grease, salt crust, and metal filings.
We inspect pawls, leaf springs, and gear teeth under magnification for signs of hairline fractures, chips, deformation, or severe pitting.
Polishing & Cleaning Restoration
For classic bronze or aluminum winches that have dulled or suffered from surface corrosion, we offer specialised polishing and cleaning to restore their premium finish on deck.
We rebuild your winches using manufacturer-approved marine lubricants. We use lightweight oil exclusively for the pawls and springs (to prevent them from sticking closed) and high-load waterproof grease for the bearings and gear trains.
Winches should be serviced at least once a year, ideally during winter decommissioning, to prevent salt-seized bearings. If your winches are making a dry “clicking” sound or feeling heavy to turn, they are already overdue for a service.
